Hydrogen Peroxide Gas Plasma (HPGP) is a low-temperature sterilization method that combines hydrogen peroxide (HP) vapor with plasma to ensure both effective sterilization and safety.

The process begins by introducing a concentrated hydrogen peroxide solution into the sterilizer, which is vaporized to evenly distribute throughout the chamber. This vapor acts as a powerful sterilizing agent, targeting microorganisms on the surfaces of medical instruments.

Gas Plasma is then created using an electric field, which energizes the hydrogen peroxide molecules. This step enhances the sterilizing properties by producing reactive species, known as free radicals, that effectively destroy bacteria, viruses, fungi, and spores.

At the end of the cycle, the gas plasma decomposes any remaining hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen, reducing the risk of residual peroxide on the sterilized items and harmful exposure to sterile processing technicians.

This dual action ensures that hydrogen peroxide can be used at higher concentrations during the sterilization cycle for thorough penetration while also increasing the margin of safety for both patients and staff.
