In India, For India: Building Healthcare Systems That Quietly Build The Nation

Republic Day brings out a spirit of togetherness in the nation. For me, it is a moment of pride, reflection, and enthusiasm. I have seen how this nation has evolved, and I could not be more excited than being here right now. India represents opportunities like it has never represented before, and the pace of progress we have made in the past few years has been significant.

When I think about healthcare and nation building, I believe its contribution cannot be overemphasized. Healthcare is absolutely critical. A great healthcare setup keeps people productive, keeps people out of hospital, and helps them return to work quickly. That is what nation building is. Healthcare may be a silent contributor, but it is critical to productivity and to keeping the nation humming forward.

At ASP, I am extremely proud of the journey we have had in India. We have been here for a long time — decades in disinfection and more than two decades in low-temperature sterilization. We have been associated with major hospitals, government hospitals, district hospitals, private clinics, and nursing homes. Over time, we have built trust with our customers. We believe in being trusted advisors, not just product providers.

For us, Make in India is not only about one initiative. It is part of a broader thought process. Hospital-acquired infections are a problem to be solved, and we have solutions to solve that problem. It makes logical and economical sense to be invested in India.

India has immense engineering talent and software talent. That is why we established the India Design Center in Bengaluru, with software, mechanical, electrical, and chemical engineers. We have also started manufacturing in Chennai. When engineering, manufacturing, and customer insights come together locally, it creates an amazing mixture of understanding, developing, and getting things done.

Our aspiration is to make technology available, affordable, and accessible beyond tier-one cities. Patients in tier-two and tier-three cities also deserve this standard of care. Our mission is protecting patients in their critical moments — and that means all patients.

If I have to summarize ASP’s commitment, I would say: we are in India, for India, and forever in India.
